Bermuda

A realistic 4-day island trip: Hamilton as a base, historic St. George's, a catamaran day, caves, pink sand, and whether you really need a Twizy.

Trip at a glance

How I’d plan it.

Bermuda is small enough to see a lot in a few days, but I would not try to cram every beach and attraction into one trip. Pick a few areas, leave room for the water, and build around the weather.

Getting around

You really don’t need a rental car.

  • Ferries: cheap and useful for crossing the island, especially Hamilton ↔ Dockyard. Weekend service can be more limited, so check the schedule before building your day around it.
  • Buses: I would use them more next time. They’re a practical way to get between major areas without spending taxi money all day.
  • Taxis: convenient but expensive. In my experience, paying the driver directly in cash was cheaper than booking through an app.
  • HITCH: Bermuda’s taxi-booking app. Download it before the trip so you have it as a backup when you can’t easily hail a cab.
  • Twizy: renting one for a day was genuinely fun and made exploring feel like part of the experience — but it is not necessary for the whole trip.
Where to stay

Hamilton Princess & Beach Club.

Why I liked it The rooms and pool felt spacious, Hamilton is an easy base for restaurants and ferries, and the private beach access made the hotel feel like both a city stay and a beach resort.
The beach setup The hotel runs a complimentary jitney to its private Princess Beach Club at Sinky Bay, about 20 minutes away. That was a huge part of why the stay felt worth it.
Who I’d recommend it for Someone who wants a nicer hotel, easy Hamilton access, and a quieter beach option without staying directly on the South Shore.
Itinerary

4 days in Bermuda.

Day 1 · Hamilton + Princess Beach Club

  • Settle into Hamilton Princess and explore the hotel.
  • Take the complimentary jitney to the private Princess Beach Club.
  • Keep the first day relaxed: pool, beach, Front Street, and dinner around Hamilton.
  • If you have time, walk the harbor area and get familiar with the ferry terminal for later in the trip.

Day 2 · St. George’s + Tobacco Bay

  • Head to St. George’s and walk King’s Square.
  • See St. Peter’s Church and the Unfinished Church.
  • Have lunch in town — Wahoo’s Bistro is one of the spots I’d keep on the list.
  • Spend the afternoon at Tobacco Bay.
  • If you have extra time, add Fort St. Catherine.
  • If you would rather prioritize nature, you could swap part of this day for Cooper’s Island Nature Reserve.

Day 3 · Royal Naval Dockyard + catamaran

  • Take the Blue Route ferry from Hamilton to Royal Naval Dockyard.
  • Walk the Dockyard before or after your boat tour.
  • Do the Rising Son catamaran / snorkel experience — this was one of the highlights of the trip.
  • Have lunch around Dockyard.
  • Horseshoe Bay can fit here if you really want to see it, but I would not build the entire day around it if you already have Princess Beach Club access.

Day 4 · Twizy + Crystal Caves

  • Pick up a Twizy and use the day as your flexible island-exploring day.
  • Go to Crystal & Fantasy Caves first thing in the morning.
  • I only did Crystal Cave, but next time I would do the combination ticket and see both.
  • Walk-ins are welcome and reservations are not required, but wait times can vary — I would arrive for the first tours at 9:00 a.m. so you do not waste part of the day waiting.
  • Stop at Bailey’s Bay Ice Cream Parlour around the corner from the caves.
  • Continue to Blue Hole Park / Tom Moore’s Jungle if you want another nature stop.
  • If you have more time, add Cooper’s Island; otherwise save it for a future trip or swap it with St. George’s depending on your priorities.
Food & drink

Places I’d keep on the list.

This is a mix of places from the trip and recommendations I got from coworkers, so think of it as a shortlist rather than a claim that I personally ate at every single one.

Hamilton Princess16O9 for waterfront food and drinks; Crown & Anchor for an easy hotel option; Intrepid if you want a nicer dinner.
HamiltonPearl, Déjà View, Port O Call, Bolero, and The Terrace were all on my Bermuda food list.
St. George’sWahoo’s Bistro is a good one to pair with your St. George’s day.
DockyardFrog & Onion is an easy option if you want to eat while you are already exploring the Dockyard.
Near Crystal CavesBailey’s Bay Ice Cream Parlour is the fun stop I would add after the caves.
What I’d do differently

The things I’d change next time.

I wouldn’t prioritize Horseshoe Bay.

If you’re staying at Hamilton Princess and already have access to the private Princess Beach Club, I’d personally skip making Horseshoe Bay a major part of the trip. It’s beautiful and worth seeing, but it felt much more crowded and touristy. I’d rather use that time at the quieter hotel beach or exploring somewhere else.

Use the buses more. Taxis add up quickly. Bermuda is small and public transportation is very workable once you understand the routes.
Do both caves. I did Crystal Cave, but if I went back I’d buy the combination ticket and see Fantasy Cave too. The official cave site says one cave takes about 35 minutes and both take about 1 hour 15 minutes.
Keep the Twizy to one day. It was fun and I’m glad we did it, but I would not pay for one for the entire trip. Ferry, bus, hotel jitney, and taxis cover the rest well enough.
Leave one thing optional. Cooper’s Island is the kind of stop I’d keep as a bonus. If you have more time, add it; if not, the trip still feels complete without forcing it in.
Book ahead

What I’d plan before the trip.

  • Catamaran / snorkel tour: this was one of the experiences I would absolutely keep.
  • Twizy: reserve one if you specifically want a self-drive day.
  • Princess Beach Club: check the hotel jitney schedule so you can plan the day around it.
  • Crystal & Fantasy Caves: walk-ins are welcomed, but arrive early if you want to minimize waiting. Combination tours have specific operating windows on some days.
